KATARZYNA ZIMNA
Artist and researcher, born in Lodz, Poland. Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Lodz, Faculty of Graphic Art and Painting (2002), and Faculty of Visual Education (2004). She obtained her PhD from the School of Art and Design, Loughborough University, UK in 2010. Habilitation in fine arts in 2019. Her research focuses on the role of play/game as a concept in art theory and philosophy, and a model for artistic creation in modern and postmodern art. Participant in numerous national and international exhibitions. She explores intersections of aesthetics and everyday life using the medium of print as a primary conceptual tool. Her practice also includes interactive, textile and object art. Associate professor at the Institute of Architecture of Textiles at the Lodz University of Technology.
Katarzyna Zimna ukończyła studia na Wydziale Grafiki i Malarstwa oraz na Wydziale Edukacji Wizualnej Akademii Sztuk Pięknych im. Wł. Strzemińskiego w Łodzi (dyplomy z wyróżnieniem, 2002 r. i 2004 r.). W latach 2005–2010 studiowała w Loughborough University School of Art and Design w Wielkiej Brytanii, gdzie obroniła pracę doktorską na temat gry/zabawy jako pojęcia w estetyce i strategii twórczej w sztuce modernizmu i postmodernizmu. W 2019 roku uzyskała tytuł doktora habilitowanego w dyscyplinie sztuki plastyczne. Pracuje na stanowisku profesora uczelni w Instytucie Architektury Tekstyliów Politechniki Łódzkiej. Główny nurt jej twórczości związany jest z grafiką warsztatową traktowaną jako intermedium i punkt wyjścia do poszukiwań w zakresie sztuki obiektu, tkaniny artystycznej czy działań z uczestnictwem widza.
